US Dollar Hits Record High Against Nepali Rupee

 Kathmandu, 1 Magh – The Nepal Rastra Bank has released the latest foreign exchange rates, with the value of the US dollar soaring to an all-time high. The strengthening of the US dollar has also caused a notable rise in the rates of other major currencies.



As per today’s official exchange rates, the buying rate for 1 US dollar is set at NPR 138.23, while the selling rate is NPR 138.83. This marks a significant hike in the value of the US currency, affecting Nepal’s import and export economy.


Other notable currency exchange rates include:

  • Euro: Buying at NPR 140.86, selling at NPR 141.47
  • British Pound Sterling: Buying at NPR 167.59, selling at NPR 168.32
  • Swiss Franc: Buying at NPR 150.77, selling at NPR 151.42
  • Australian Dollar: Buying at NPR 84.98, selling at NPR 85.35
  • Canadian Dollar: Buying at NPR 95.80, selling at NPR 96.22
  • Japanese Yen (10 units): Buying at NPR 8.79, selling at NPR 8.82

In the Asian market, the Chinese Yuan is valued at NPR 18.85 for buying and NPR 18.93 for selling. Similarly, the Saudi Arabian Riyal stands at NPR 36.82 for buying and NPR 36.98 for selling.

Additionally, the Indian Rupee, widely traded in Nepal, has a buying rate of NPR 160.00 for 100 units, with a selling rate of NPR 160.15.

The Nepal Rastra Bank stated that these exchange rates are subject to change as needed. While these are the official rates, commercial banks may set their rates differently. For the latest updates, the central bank advises checking its official website.

This surge in foreign currency values is expected to have a significant impact on Nepal’s trade balance, with imports becoming more expensive.
