Lee Corso Nearly Takes a Tumble While Celebrating Notre Dame Orange Bowl Pick

The lead-up to ESPN’s Orange Bowl broadcast between Penn State and Notre Dame delivered an unexpected scare involving longtime “GameDay” analyst Lee Corso.

While making his signature helmet pick for the College Football Playoff semifinal between the Nittany Lions and the Fighting Irish, Corso, dressed as a leprechaun, enthusiastically performed a celebratory jig to predict a Notre Dame victory. However, the 89-year-old nearly lost his balance and fell backward near the show’s desk.

Thankfully, the Notre Dame mascot, who was dancing alongside Corso, caught him before he hit the ground. The moment drew relieved laughter from the crowd and the “GameDay” crew.

Corso’s jig has become a beloved tradition when selecting Notre Dame, a ritual he also performed earlier in the season when he accurately predicted the Fighting Irish’s victory over Texas A&M in their Week 1 matchup.

A fixture of ESPN’s college football coverage since the late 1980s, Corso’s colorful antics and trademark catchphrases have helped make “GameDay” a fan favorite and one of the most celebrated pregame shows in television history.

While his role on the show has been scaled back in recent years due to health concerns, Corso remains a cherished part of the program, with his helmet picks continuing to be a highlight for viewers.
