Kathmandu: The detention hearing for Rabi Lamichhane, President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, will commence today in Kathmandu District Court. The case pertains to allegations of misappropriation of savings at the Swarnalakshmi Cooperative.
The hearing, presided over by Judge Madhav Prasad Adhikari, will determine whether Lamichhane should be remanded into custody for trial or released on bail to contest the case.
Background on the Case
On Sunday, Lamichhane’s statement prolonged the proceedings, delaying the detention hearing. Following this, Judge Adhikari placed him under police custody at the Kathmandu Police Station, where he remains detained. Police will present him in court for the hearing.
Lamichhane and his legal team had requested on Sunday that he be released into his family’s custody, arguing that he had voluntarily appeared in court. However, Judge Adhikari noted that there is no precedent to release defendants under judicial consideration into family custody and handed him over to police responsibility.
Swarnalakshmi Cooperative Case Details
